PLEASURAMA LOOKS & QUACKS LIKE A DUCK

I'm delighted to hear that almost 2,000 Ramsgate residents have signed a petition opposing the selling off  of the freehold of  the Pleasurama site to developers SFP Ventures. This petition will be discussed by the Council on 18th April and I  encourage as many people as possible to attend the meeting to hear the debate.

I have been campaigning against the Pleasurama development  for almost a year now.  I have concerns about the ability of the developers to raise the finance to complete the project. I have  concerns about the due diligence carried out  by Thanet Council into the developers which I think was wofefully inadequate. In my opinion, no matter how much or how often the deal with SFP is "adjusted", "tweaked" or "modified" it is destined to fail.

If Pleasurama looks and quacks like a duck then it must be a duck.

Unfortunately the vast majority of my colleague Thanet councillors from both political parties have failed to see the obvious. And instead of adopting  a robust stance towards SFP they have back-tracked and kow-towed  giving them one chance after another. Even then the developers have still failed miserably to deliver the goods. Surely there must come point in time  when Councillors say enough is enough and agree to take decisive action.

Hopefully the petition, which is large by any standard, will spur Councillors who, until now, have buried their heads in the sand into developing plans to terminate the agreement with the developers. There is nothing quite like People Power, to concentrate the minds of politicians who fear losing their seats.

As the only Ramsgate Councillor to have consistently opposed the Pleasurama development I seek your support in the May 2 Kent County Council elections.

  1. The councillors have left Pleasurama derelict for years helping to destroy the town. It should be cancelled and turfed over for the Summer as soon as possible.

Nothing has been said about Thor either: what are your views?

    1. Hi Anon my views are that the development agreement with SFP must be terminated with SFP as quickly as possible. The Council must then begin a public consultation with the people of Ramsgate about what should be on this site. I also think we need serious discussion about the future of the Pavillion which has been boarded up and internally vandalised by its tenenants

    2. You forgot to mention Thor.

The pavilion is a problem after years of dereliction. The sooner it's open and viable the better. The councils are hardly likely to attract investors given their performance so far.
